About Us

The PDX Deep Reading Program was founded with the——————————.

This program is an in-person program with online options available for people located across the country. The hope and goal of this program is to learn how to meet and dialogue in person. It is a big commitment!

While this is an academic-oriented program, this is a non-accredited program not affiliated with any institution. It was founded to engage students on a deeper level than they can in the classroom and prepare them for academia in a more rigorous context.

Based on lists of great works of literature, while also considering authors who are living and writing, this is often excluded.

This program is open to students only in person. Being in person is a requirement so that students can have live discussions.

Dealing with serious and mature themes.

Everything should be read/completed before the first day. Each day, we will discuss a different text, but fold in discussions of the previous texts as well.

Provides a model for how many academic institutions and colleges expect engagement with text.

Putting things in conversation with each other

“The unread story is not a story; it is little black marks on wood pulp. The reader, reading it, makes it live: a live thing, a story.”
